Strategic Guidelines

At Zilor, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) best practices are part of who we are. In 2021, these initiatives took on greater structure and visibility with the launch of the Zilor + Sustainable Program.

This program intentionally integrates sustainability into Zilor’s strategy, guided by an ambition for transformative change, a compelling purpose, and clear strategic directives. These directives, endorsed and prioritized by Senior Management, reflect the Company’s commitment at all leadership levels to advancing its ESG journey.

Environmental management at Zilor is focused on identifying and reducing environmental impacts, enhancing positive outcomes, creating business value, and protecting natural resources.

Social Management

Zilor’s social management strategy centers on protecting employee health and safety, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment, and promoting professional development. The Company is committed to human rights, diversity, and equality – and actively engages with local communities through education, health, and income-generation initiatives.

Governance Management

Zilor’s governance strategy ensures transparency, accountability, and integrity across all operations through policies designed to address conflicts of interest, manage risks, and support ethical practices.

Innovation, Technology & Productivity

Covers the operational performance of both business units and highlights innovation efforts from field to industry – all aimed at improving efficiency and productivity.

Addresses both climate mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation efforts focus on reducing fossil fuel use and expanding renewable energy sources to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Adaptation highlights the role of ethanol in decarbonizing the value chain.

Water, Waste & Effluent Management

Covers the Company’s impact on water availability and quality in the regions where it operates. With water playing a key role in both agricultural and industrial processes, Zilor is committed to minimizing water use and improving conservation practices.

Monitors sugarcane suppliers to ensure they meet environmental and labor compliance standards across Zilor’s supply chain.

Highlights Biorigin’s efforts to ensure traceability of its renewable-source products, adopt responsible marketing and labeling practices, and integrate technology that adds value for customers.

Governance Management

Corporate Governance

Zilor’s corporate governance structure is one of the Company’s operational pillars. It serves as a mechanism to enhance decision-making processes and to decentralize those decisions through the involvement of experienced market professionals on the Board of Directors and advisory committees. Its purpose is to provide stakeholders with transparency regarding the Company’s decision-making process and strategic direction, as well as to ensure alignment of principles and guidelines across all business units.

Ethics & Transparency

Zilor has established policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure ethical and transparent management, in full compliance with applicable laws and market best practices. The Governance, Compliance & Contracts department leads initiatives such as Code of Ethics training for employees and agricultural partners and oversees the implementation of the Ethics & Compliance Program.
