Zilor, a Brazilian multinational operating in the sugar-energy and biotechnology sectors, published its 2023/2024 Annual Sustainability Report on November 29, 2024. The report presents the harvest results along with the company’s progress and challenges related to its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments and ambitions.
Now in its tenth edition and second annual reporting cycle (aligned with the company’s financial reporting period), the publication covers the period from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. As in previous cycles, the content is structured around the most relevant ESG topics, which define the report’s scope and depth. These topics are identified through a materiality process and include 10 priority issues – eight corporate-wide and one specific to each business division (Agribusiness and Biotechnology). Themes featured throughout the report include climate change, labor relations, portfolio and supplier management, compliance, innovation, and community engagement.
Frameworks and Indicators
The report’s data and content are guided by globally recognized standards and frameworks. The report is guided by the 2021 Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, recognized worldwide as best practices for disclosing environmental, social, and economic impacts – including the GRI 13 Sector Standard. It also incorporates Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) indicators for the Biofuels and Agricultural Products sector, as well as the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), applied to the indicators relevant to Zilor. The report also highlights how Zilor contributes to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, through its Zilor + Sustainable 2030 Program, with clear links to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A dedicated subsection presents the performance of Biorigin, Zilor’s biotechnology business unit. It includes its material topics and specific indicators, such as GRI, SASB, and TCFD, as well as its contributions to the SDGs.
