Business Segments
Sugar
Zilor’s 4 industrial units produce a combined total of 4,850 metric tons of sugar per day, with a storage capacity of 370.5 thousand tons.
Production includes white sugar, brown sugar, and fermentable sugar (FS), which serves as a raw material for Biorigin, Zilor’s natural ingredients division.
All sugar produced is delivered to Copersucar, which manages its global commercialization.
Ethanol
Zilor produces both anhydrous ethanol (used as a gasoline additive) and hydrous ethanol (used directly as fuel in vehicles).
The company’s installed daily production capacity is 6,450 m³.
Most of the ethanol is collected by distributors and transported to their distribution terminals.
All ethanol produced is delivered to Copersucar, which handles its commercialization.
CBIO – Decarbonization Credits
RenovaBio is a national policy designed to increase the use of ethanol and other biofuels in Brazil’s energy matrix. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector by 11% by 2031. The program is an important contribution to meet commitments made by Brazil in the Paris Agreement, as it is guided by predictability and economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
As a biofuel producer and certified participant in RenovaBio across all four units, Zilor issues and sells Decarbonization Credits (CBIOs) to fuel distributors. This contributes to Brazil’s decarbonization goals while creating new business opportunities for the company.
Bioenergy
Our bioenergy is generated from sugarcane biomass, a sustainable source that meets 100% of Zilor’s electricity and steam needs. The surplus is sold to distribution utilities (regulated market) and energy traders (free and spot markets).
In 2023 and 2024, Zilor commissioned cogeneration projects at its São José and Barra Grande units. Both are now operational and are expected to increase the company’s energy export capacity by up to 60%. Zilor’s current cogeneration capacity totals 319 MW.
Expanding renewable energy generation aligns with Zilor’s business diversification strategy, helping reduce exposure to commodity price fluctuations and increasing revenue predictability.
It also reinforces the company’s positive environmental impact by boosting the share of renewable sources in Brazil’s energy matrix.
Natural Ingredients
Yeasts for Animal Nutrition
Since 1994, Zilor has been investing in a circular economy model, focusing on sustainable profitability while generating value and development for local communities.
Using fermentation cream from ethanol production and brewery yeast cream as raw materials to manufacture solutions that promote animal performance, health, and well-being, Zilor produces yeast and yeast-derived ingredients used in the animal nutrition industry.
These ingredients offer high protein content, an excellent profile of essential amino acids, and B-complex vitamins, meeting the nutritional and palatability needs of diets for all animal species.
